A Virgin Australia 737-800 VH-YFF was performing flight VA-1693 on 28 January. The was on final's for 32 at Gold Coast when the aircraft encountered windshear and moderate turbulence, the aircraft continued touchdown on 32. After touchdown the aircraft hydroplaned toward the left edge of the runway before the crew regained control and slowed the aircraft without further incident.

The ATSB opened an investigation.
Earlier that day most flight had been cancelled due to sever weather and lack of instrument landing system available at the airport.
